The Junior Common Room of Commonwealth Hall, the only all-male hall in the University of Ghana have unanimously decided to boycott the food and all other items traded by Tasty Treats – a food trading company in the University of Ghana with a branch in Commonwealth Hall over ‘exorbitant’ prices.
At an Ordinary JCR meeting held on Monday 5th March, 2018 within the precincts of the Hall, residents were vociferous on how resolved they were to take extreme measures until Tasty Treats reduce the prices of its food items.
The JCR executives of the Hall led by the president Prosper Boahene averred that this decision has become necessary after they had tried all other avenues to resolve the issue without success.
After the semester began, it became apparent that Tasty Treats which operates from the defunct Dinning Hall of the Hall had increased the prices of their food items some ranging from 50% to 100%. Residents of the Hall were not happy with the development and at a time the Traditional Outfit of the Hall tried to resolve same.
In an early morning communication pasted on all notice boards in the Hall and shared on WhatsApp too, the JCR executives reminded residents of the resolution and called for same to be obeyed since failure to obey a resolution of the JCR could lead to sanctions.

LegonConnect’s Kwaku Asante Bismark who himself is a resident of the Hall reports that as of 9 am Tuesday morning, Tasty Treats had still not opened their doors as it may be that they have received hints of the JCR resolution. Usually Tasty Treats would sell Breakfast but these food items were still stuck inside whilst JCR members were seen around chatting in groups with a binding resolve to hold on to the boycott till prices are reduced.
LegonConnect has made efforts to speak to Tasty Treats but have been unsuccessful as employees are tight-lipped over the development.
More Soon.
