UG GOES GREEN
The Vice Chancellor of University of Ghana,Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, in his vision to propel the image of University of Ghana in the global arena launched his eight strategic teams on the 3rd November, 2016 of which the green project was no exception.
The Green project, cochaired by Professor Chris Gordon and Professor Benjamin Ofori is aimed at bringing together all student leaders,students in general and all corporate bodies to engage in a Tree planting exercise on some selected areas on campus.
The benefits of tree planting cannot be downplayed as an old age expresses: “If the last tree dies,the last man dies”.
As part of the Vice-Chancellor’s Green-Project, members of the University of Ghana community have embarked on a massive tree planting exercise to mark the 2017 Farmers’ Day celebration. This activity brought together the Vice Chancellor, the Registrar, the Head of Public Affairs Directorate, members of UTAG, GAUA, TEWU, FUSSAG and Alumni. Participants of the exercise started off with a warm-up aerobics session.
The project is expected to fully commence on 7th April,2018. I, therefore,entreat all and sundry to participate in this fruitful exercise as we together, proceed in integrity.
The University has so far received some donations towards the green project.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, received Ms. Yvonne Nti, CEO, Y & M Regeneration Ltd at his office last month to formally thank her for her donation of 10,000 trees to the VC Greening Legon Initiative. Ms Nti said that she was informed about the VC’s Green Project by Prof Chris Gordon, Director of the Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies and co-chair of the Green Project, and was immediately enthralled by the initiative; as it fits perfectly with her company’s motto of “Greening the environment, for a better tomorrow”. The 10,000 seedlings are currently being nursed at the Y & M Regeneration nursery at Kintampo and would be transported to Accra when the rains start.
